چکیده

As part of a large SpitzerMIPS Guaranteed Time Observation program, we have searched for infrared excesses due to debris disks toward 26 FGK field stars known from radial velocity (RV) studies to have one or more planets. While none of these stars show excesses at 24 m, we have detected 70 m excesses around six stars at the 3 confidence level. The excesses are produced by cool material (<100 K) located beyond 10 AU, well outside the ‘‘habitable zones’’ of these systems and consistent with the presence of Kuiper Belt analogs with 100 times more emitting surface area than in our own planetary system. These planet-bearing stars are, by selection for RV studies, typically older than 1 Gyr, and the stars identified here with excesses have a median age of 4 Gyr. We find a preliminary correlation of both the frequency and the magnitude of dust emission with the presence of known planets. These are the first stars outside the solar system identified as having both well-confirmed planetary systems and well-confirmed IR excesses. Subject headinggs: infrared: stars — Kuiper Belt — planetary systems: formation — planetary systems: protoplanetary disks

Frequency of Debris Disks around Solar-Type Stars: First Results from a Spitzer/MIPS Survey

We have searched for infrared excesses around a well defined sample of 69 FGK main-sequence field stars. These stars were selected without regard to their age, metallicity, or any previous detection of IR excess; they have a median age of ∼4 Gyr. We have detected 70 μm excesses around 7 stars at the 3-σ confidence level. This extra emission is produced by cool material (< 100 K) located beyond ...

A Spitzer Study of Debris Disks in the Young Nearby Cluster Ngc 2232: Icy Planets Are Common around 1.5y3 M Stars

We describe Spitzer IRAC and MIPS observations of the nearby 25 Myr old open cluster NGC 2232. Combining these data with ROSATAll-Sky Survey observations, proper motions, and optical photometry/spectroscopy, we construct a list of highly probable cluster members. We identify one A-type star, HD 45435, that has definite excess emission at 4.5Y24 m indicative of debris from terrestrial planet for...

Spitzer Mips Observations of Stars in the Pictoris Moving Group

We present Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) observations at 24 and 70 m for 30 stars, and at 160 m for a subset of 12 stars, in the nearby ( 30 pc), young ( 12 Myr) Pictoris moving group (BPMG). In several cases, the new MIPS measurements resolve source confusion and background contamination issues in the IRAS data for this sample. We find that 7 members have 24 m excesses, imply...

Spitzer Observations of G Dwarfs in the Pleiades : Circumstellar Debris Disks at 100 Myr Age

Fluxes and upper limits in the wavelength range from 3.6 to 70 μm from the Spitzer Space Telescope are provided for twenty solar-mass Pleiades members. One of these stars shows a probable mid-IR excess and two others have possible excesses, presumably due to circumstellar debris disks. For the star with the largest, most secure excess flux at MIPS wavelengths, HII1101, we derive Log(Ldust/L∗) ∼...

Infrared Signatures of Disrupted Minor Planets at White Dwarfs

Spitzer Space Observatory IRAC and MIPS photometric observations are presented for 20 white dwarfs with Teff . 20, 000 K and metal-contaminated photospheres. A warm circumstellar disk is detected at GD 16 and likely at PG 1457−086, while the remaining targets fail to reveal mid-infrared excess typical of dust disks, including a number of heavily polluted stars. Extending previous studies, over ...
